Live it! As the mom of “player b”, this is a similar explanation that I have used when talking with my friends about what I see at the courts. And my player. She deals with things in life that most other kids her age do not. It is shaping her into a wonderful person. Except in the eyes of the directors, and some coaches, in the VB world. All they seem to gravitate too is “player a”. I wish directors at some of the larger VB gyms would read and learn from this.

Thanks for commenting Christi and feel free to share with anyone you think might benefit from it (even the club directors:). I agree that in the short term, player A often gets the credit, accolades and attention but as you mentioned, long term player b is developing real life skills. Not always easy to see when you are a teenager but good she has a mom to remind her of it!
